7 Class Hours

Instructors: Dave Linaburg, Dan Johnson and Doris Rigoni

This course takes a deeper dive into credit issues through case studies. Working in teams, students will address the challenges or problems with credit decisions related to three distinct types of credit:  commercial, commercial real estate and agricultural.

This class’s format allows students to bring their expertise to the table while also learning from each other. The case studies will be led by a faculty member with expertise in each area. This class is designed for bankers with lending experience and regulators with credit review experience.

Course goals and objectives include:

  • Provide a framework for working in a committee environment.  Students are seated in groups/pods and this is your loan team. Course is heavy on group discussion in pods and in the class and light on ‘teaching’.  It is a true case studies course.
  • Propose a loan structure for various loan types to ensure credit quality.  This is not meant to be the most aggressive terms, but including covenants, monitoring, and minimum ratios to be met which drive the loan structure.
  • Learn more about how your colleagues and classmates underwrite at their banks, as well as learn about different asset types (Commercial Real Estate, Agricultural Lending and Commercial and Industrial Lending).
