Our History and Reputation
In September 1950, the Colorado Bankers Association (CBA) and the University of Colorado (CU) Board of Regents co-sponsored the organization and operation of the Colorado School of Banking for approximately 20 Colorado bank employees for a two week period in the summer of 1951 on the Boulder campus of CU. On December 18, 1959, the Regents of the University approved the request of the Board of Trustees of the Colorado School of Banking that the school continues indefinitely for two weeks every summer on the Boulder campus of the University of Colorado without limitation on the number of selected students.
For seven decades, GSBC has educated more than 8,000 bankers, regulatory professionals and other members of the financial services industry. As an expert resource for ideas and strategies, we prepare students to tackle the challenges of today’s fast-paced banking environment. While upholding a long-standing educational reputation, GSBC continues to adapt to the changing times and provide the premier educational experience for community bankers, helping them realize their potential.
Honoring Community Banking Leaders
The GSBC Board of Trustees established the James C. Scarboro Memorial Award in honor of James Scarboro, one of the founders of the Colorado School of Banking in 1950. This award is presented to a commercial banker or banking educator who has provided outstanding leadership to the banking community and/or banking education.
What People Are Saying
Becoming a well-rounded, top-notch community banker does not occur by accident. Real life experience is required, along with a combination of hands-on learning and education. GSBC provides the second part of that equation with an excellent faculty and comprehensive curriculum covering financial analysis, lending, management, technology and leadership. This training provides a solid foundation to continue our officers’ career development.
Doug Fuller
The education that is available at GSBC's Executive Development Institute is second to none. EDI gave me an immense understanding of community banking while simultaneously cultivating innovative ideas that provided real results to my organization. One of the most valuable things of EDI was the opportunity to create close friendships and professional connections with my classmates.
