Kevin M. Kness started his banking career in 1983 with Peoples National Bank and assisted in the start-up of the newly chartered Peoples State Bank Albia, Iowa, in 1987. Kness was appointed president of Peoples State Bank in 1997, serving in that capacity for 23 years. Kness remained the president and CEO of Peoples State Bank and served as chairman and president of Peoples Tri-County Bancorporation until Peoples State Bank’s merger with South Ottumwa Savings Bank in January 2020. Kness then served as executive vice president of F&M Bank in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 2020-2021 before officially retiring.
Being active in Iowa’s state bankers associations, Kness served on the board of directors of the Community Bankers of Iowa from 2003-2005. He also served as Region 6 President – Secretary of the Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) from 2005-2006 and as a member of the IBA Board of Directors from 2007-2008. Kness was then appointed to the Iowa Division of Banking’s State Banking Council, serving from 2014-2018.
Kness has been active in his local community for many years, serving on several boards and holding executive positions with local organizations, including the Albia Area Chamber of Commerce, the Albia Community Betterment Corp, the Albia Industrial Development Corp, the Albia Rotary Club, Indian Hills Community College, Monroe County Hospital & Clinics, Monroe County Iowa Community Foundation, Rathbun Lake Resort Inc. and Welcome Home Soldier.
A native of Albia, Iowa, Kness obtained his B.A. in Business Management from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and is a 1994 graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
Kevin is an avid golfer and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He and his wife Rhonda enjoy spending time with family, working on their small farm, traveling and doing outdoor activities.
