The Graduate School of Banking at Colorado (GSBC) will host its 2021 Jentz Fellowship recipient, John Hackney, assistant professor of finance at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business, at its 70^th Annual School Session.

Hackney graduated from Gonzaga University with a degree in finance and economics and spent his working life before graduate school in the family screen-printing business, which directly benefited from community bank funding.

Hackney received his Ph.D. in finance from the University of Washington in 2016. His research currently focuses on the effects of government regulation on community banks and small business financing. His recent paper about CRA examinations and small business lending was awarded the “Most Significant Contribution to Banking Policy” award at the St. Louis Fed’s Community Banking in the 21st Century Conference in 2019.

The Jentz Fellowship was created in memory of the late Gaylord Jentz, Professor Emeritus at the University of Texas and longtime GSBC business law instructor. The fellowship is awarded annually to a college professor who has an interest in banking to attend one week of its Annual School Session. The objective is to introduce a relatively new academic to the issues facing community bankers and to assist the recipient in identifying potential research topics.
