Stephen J. Goodenow (Steve) is the chairman of the board of Bank Midwest, located in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Goodenow serves as president and CEO at Goodenow Bancorporation in Okoboji, Iowa. Goodenow Bancorporation is closely held, although over 200 employees participate in ownership through the companies ESOP, which owns approximately 13% of the outstanding shares. Goodenow is a past Trustee and Chairman of the Graduate School of Banking at Colorado. He also served as a Class A Director at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago from 2009-2012. Goodenow served on and chaired the Communication Council of the American Bankers Association (ABA) from 2011 until 2019. In addition, he served as membership chairman for Iowa for the ABA from 2015-2019 and served on the Community Bankers Council from 2008-2010. Goodenow has been active in the Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) serving as the chairman of the Legislative Committee in 2005-2006 and on their board of directors from 2006-2008 and served as chairman of the IBA from 2012-2013.
Goodenow has been heavily involved in his local community through the years, serving as chairman and treasurer of the Okoboji Foundation, a community foundation while on their board from 2008-2017. Steve is a past chairman of the Iowa Great Lakes Industrial Development Board, past board member and chairman of the Corridor of Opportunity (Regional Economic Development), past chairman of the Dickinson County Trails Association, and was a YMCA Capital Campaign cochairman in 2001, an effort that led to the completion of a $6 million dollar state-of-the-art facility to a county of approximately 17,000. Prior to his employment at Bank Midwest, Steve was an associate national bank examiner, Comptroller of the Currency, in the Chicago metropolitan area. He holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Iowa, an MBA in Finance from DePaul University and is a 2004 graduate of Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
Steve and his wife Michele have two children, Abigail and Nicholas. In his free time, Steve enjoys biking, golfing, and traveling.
